“Is Josh Hawley afraid of women, or just afraid of debating in front of them?”
BREAKING: After 55 Days Without Hosting A Public Campaign Event, Hawley Just Rejected League Of Women Voters’ Offer For TV Debate Today In Favor Of A Hypocritical Private Jet Tour With Trump-Critic And Luxury Menswear Salesman Harrison Butker
Independence, MO — Josh Hawley has refused an invitation for a fully-televised debate hosted by the non-partisan League of Women Voters set to potentially take place today, and will instead host events with Luxury Menswear Salesman Harrison Butker.
While Hawley is known for caring a lot about men (and not much about women), Butker is best known nationwide for receiving condemnation from Benedictine College nuns and Jewish community leaders for a controversial speech that “criticize[d] working women” and preached an antisemitic lie that Jewish people are collectively responsible for the killing of Jesus. Hawley quickly defended Butker’s anti-woman and antisemitic speech, drawing intense criticism from Missouri’s working women in an open letter first published by The Daily Beast that Hawley has ignored. Hawley has also ignored a letter from Jewish leaders first published in Rolling Stone calling on him to reject Butker’s antisemitism.
“With a record of controlling Missouri women’s lives and failing to invest in women and their communities, it’s no wonder Josh Hawley would rather cruise around in private jets than participate in a fully-televised debate hosted by the non-partisan League of Women Voters,” said Hannah Edwards, Communications Director for Lucas Kunce. “So, is Josh Hawley afraid of women, or just afraid of debating in front of them? Will he ever answer a question on his actual record?”
In addition to his rejection of women workers, Hawley’s recent statements and record in the Senate lend credit to the idea that Hawley’s fear of women—in particular, the questions he’d face from women voters—is likely the driving force behind his rejection of the non-partisan League of Women Voters debate:
- As reported by the Daily Beast, Missouri tradeswomen have condemned Hawley for his long opposition to working women, including his outrageous vote against protections for pregnant workers. Why did Josh Hawley vote against protections for pregnant Missouri workers? Why did he ignore a letter signed by union women workers?
- As reported by Rolling Stone, Hawley’s affirmed his support for both a national abortion ban and a total abortion ban without exceptions for victims of rape or incest — and he’s even been exposed for comparing all abortions to being as “evil” as “slavery” and “murder”. Does Josh Hawley still consider abortion to be murder? Are women the murderers, and if not, then who? Why does he falsely claim to support exceptions when he’s campaigning on behalf of an abortion ban that doesn’t have exceptions? Will he oppose any federal legislation that conflicts with what Missouri voters decide on abortion?
- As reported by Rolling Stone, Hawley has been a pioneer behind the national conversation calling on politicians to end no-fault divorce, trapping Missourians in broken and abusive marriages. He’s also pushed for and confirmed federal judges who want to end no-fault divorce. Does Josh Hawley think no-fault divorce is a bad thing? Why did Josh Hawley push for and confirm judges who want to end no-fault divorce?
- After the Guardian exposed Hawley’s long history of leadership for the legal arguments being used to threaten access to fertility treatments and birth control, Hawley voted against protections for IVF and contraception. How can Josh Hawley say he’s “100%” pro-IVF when he has a 0% voting record in support of IVF? How can Josh Hawley say he “100%” supports access to contraception when he helped lead the Hobby Lobby case that has limited access to contraception and voted against protecting access to it? Why does Hawley keep falsely claiming Missouri law protects IVF, when legal experts and former state Supreme Court justices have pointed out he’s factually wrong?
- As pointed out in multiple publications, Hawley has signed on to Supreme Court arguments to both ban mifepristone nationwide (and someday all abortions) AND to allow doctors with moral objections to abortion to refuse emergency medical care to any woman who’s had an abortion. After multiple reported deaths and delays in care, why does Hawley continue to support abortion bans that are a threat to women’s lives? Why hasn’t he done anything about it? Does he disagree with the case he signed onto that argues the Comstock Act can be used to restrict abortion access?
- While Hawley has been getting even richer selling “Manhood”, a book describing Hawley’s ideal man in the self-help genre, Hawley has refused to secure even one dollar of congressionally directed spending for Missouri that could help create jobs and raise wages for Missouri women and their families. Hawley’s voted against job creation time and time again. And Hawley even tried to cover up for his record opposing investments in Missouri by lying about his votes against housing funds for military families. Does Josh Hawley think Roy Blunt was wrong to bring back $350 million a year for Missouri, while he’s brought back $0? Does he think he’s helping Missouri women by securing $0 in congressionally directed spending every year?
- As reported first by St. Louis Magazine, multi-millionaire Josh Hawley has built up an incredibly hypocritical bill for private flights, considering his “Air Claire” criticisms in 2018. Now, instead of participating in a debate hosted by the League of Women voters, Hawley is instead hosting events with Butker just a couple hours apart, despite being in three different corners of the state. Can Hawley say why he’s changed his mind about private flights? Does Hawley think Missouri voters deserve an explanation?
