John Goodman, Born-And-Raised Missourian, Has A Message About Family Values… And Something Else
In new ad for Lucas Kunce, John Goodman talks about the meaning of family values in this election, and how it’s got nothing to do with Josh Hawley
Independence, MO — Today, Lucas Kunce released “Family Values,” a new ad narrated by John Goodman, a born-and-raised Missourian and award-winning artist known for starring in Roseanne and O Brother, Where Art Thou. Watch it HERE:
John Goodman was born and raised in Missouri. Like Lucas, John grew up in a family that lived paycheck-to-paycheck. He lived in a neighborhood where “all of [his] neighbors were World War II vets” in a house for which his dad paid $10,000. “He was two years old when his father, a postman, died; his mother worked in a cafeteria and a drugstore, and took in laundry to keep the family going.” He and his family got by thanks to the people in his community who supported him. To this day, some of his closest friends are his Missouri high school friends.
Today, John Goodman is known and beloved by Americans across the country for his celebrated roles in Monsters, Inc., Roseanne, The Big Lebowski, and many more.
In a powerful new ad for Lucas Kunce — “Family Values” — John Goodman reminds us what makes Missouri great: the people of this state who believe in living freely and taking care of each other. John Goodman calls out full-time self-help author and part-time U.S. Senator Josh Hawley for robbing us in Missouri of our freedom, our healthcare, our wealth, and even our tax dollars.
For John and Lucas, family values have always been about “people taking care of each other and doing the right thing through good times and tough times.” That’s something a controlling, country-club politician like Josh Hawley will ever understand.

A transcript of John’s message is below:
John Goodman: “Family values. I learned what that meant while growing up in the most beautiful state in the Union. And what that didn’t mean. Family values didn’t mean cruelty. It didn’t mean fake patriotism. It didn’t mean telling people how to live or family profits. It didn’t mean leaving folks behind or making life harder for hardworking people. And it sure as hell didn’t mean robbing people. None of that is family values. That’s something else.
“In Missouri, Lucas Kunce and I didn’t learn the meaning of family values from rich politicians and self-help authors like Josh Hawley. We’re the Show Me state. People showed us. People like the neighbors and church friends who helped Lucas’s family get by when his parents were bankrupted by medical bills. People like the scoutmaster, track coach, and public school teachers who mentored and supported Lucas growing up. People like the veterans at Lucas’ local Marine Corps League who taught him he could honor and protect everyone who took care of him by serving like they did. Lucas and I both learned “family values” is really about people taking care of each other and doing the right thing through good times and tough times.
“All that other noise from the politicians … that’s something else.
“In Missouri this November, no matter your party, no matter how you voted before, you have a real choice in the Senate race. Family values with Lucas Kunce or something else with Josh Hawley.”
